Rahul Dravid retired from Men’s Indian cricket team coaching after India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Finally, Rahul Dravid has won the World Cup as a coach. He could not be a part of the Indian cricket team as a player, which won the World Cup in 2007, 2011 or 2024, despite being one of the leading batsmen or captains in the history of Indian white ball cricket. Interestingly, His tenure was extended after India lost the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 because it was nearing the T20 World Cup 2024 in just 6 months. BCCI wants to continue with the same leadership of Rohit Sharma and the coaching of Rahul Dravid.

On 29th June, India won their second Men’s T20 international after the long gap of 17 years. India won their first T20 World Cup in 2007 and is waiting for their second World Cup trophy, 2 days before, under the leadership of captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid, India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a tough encounter of the World Cup final at Barbados, West Indies.

Emotional moment for Rahul Dravid and Indian team

It was a very emotional moment for every Indian, especially the Indian Cricket team and coach Rahul Dravid, after winning the ICC T20 cricket World Cup 2024 after a very long duration of more than 17 years. India lost the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 just 6 months before in Ahmedabad, India. Coach Rahul Dravid was requested to extend his tenure for this T20 World Cup alongside Captain Rohit Sharma.

It became more emotional for the Indian cricket fans throughout the world because of back to back losses in semis and finals from last 13 years after winning ICC ODI World Cup 2011. Tears in the eyes of joy was there in every player, supporting staff and coach after beating South Africa in the finals in a close encounter when South Africa was ahead of India in the game.

Retirement of senior players after winning T20 world cup

Indian senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja took retirement from T20 internationals just after winning the world cup in Barbados on 20th June 2024. It was very harsh and unlucky result for Indian cricket team after winning 10 consecutive wins in ODI world cup of 2023 and saddening to lose against Australia in the finals on 19 November 2023 at Ahmedabad.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja stated that they want to give a chance to the next generation of players in the shorter format of T20s. All three will continue to play ODIs and T20 cricket format. It was the end of the agreement for Rahu,l Dravid, and he did not apply for the coach post to give his time to his family while he has been serving Infor dian cricket for more than 25 years of his career as a coach, player and director of cricket at NCA.
